Kek Lok Tong, Ipoh

Kek Lok Tong is a big cave temple in Ipoh. Its name means "Cave of Great Happiness". It has been a place of worship going back to the 1920's, when it was known as Thien Hou Kong. It got its present name in 1982, when the custodian of the temple handed over its management to the Kek Lok Seah.

Located on the southern part of Ipoh, the cave temple occupies the limestone outcrop at Gunung Rapat. To make the cave temple more suitable for visitors, the temple committee undertook to clear up the cave. The ground was levelled while parts of the cave wall were tiled.
As a visitor enters Kek Lok Tong, he can admire the enormous stalactites hanging down from the ceiling of the cave. Multi-coloured lights are installed to brighten and beautify the formations.
The cave opens up into a swampy area. This was turned into a recreational pond with flowing water. The pond is in the shape of a carp.
Kek Lok Tong is open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and admission is free.
