The KL MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line will be the first line of the Kuala Lumpur Mass Rapid Transit to be constructed. The first MRT line will run from Sungai Buloh to Kajang, and will interchange with the existing LRT and KTM Komuter lines. Originally planned as a 43-km light rail transit line, it was later changed to a 59-km mass rapid transit line. The line will have termini in Sungai Buloh and Kajang, and will serve the densely populated neighbourhoods of Damansara Utama and Kelana Jaya.

The initial line of the Kuala Lumpur MRT is expected to cost RM36 billion. The construction is expected to start in July 2011. When completed, the first line of the MRT is expected to serve 1.2 million commuters in the vicinity of the line.
