KL Sentral Station, Kuala Lumpur

KL Sentral is the rail transportation hub of Kuala Lumpur. When it opened on 16 April, 2001, it took over the role of the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. KL Sentral is the largest train station in Southeast Asia.
KL Sentral is served by most of the railway lines that pass through Kuala Lumpur.
They include:
- Intercity trains from Kuala Lumpur northbound to Padang Besar and onwards to Bangkok.
- Intercity trains from Kuala Lumpur southbound to Johor Bahru and onwards to Singapore.
- KTM Komuter Sentul-Port Klang Line electric train service.
- KTM Komuter Rawang-Seremban Line electric train service.
- RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line light rail transit service.
- KL Monorail station across Jalan Tun Sambanthan, some 410 meter away.
- KLIA Ekspres High-speed direct rail link with KLIA.
- KLIA Transit High-speed commuter rail link with KLIA.
KL Sentral was built on the site of the former Keretapi Tanah Melayu marshalling yard in Brickfields. In addition to the main train terminal, KL Sentral will also include the development of hotels, office blocks, condominiums and shopping malls. The whole project, began in 1994, is expected to be fully completed only in 2015. They comprise 14 lots from Lot A to Lot N.

The development being handled by a consortium is led by Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB). The masterplan for KL Sentral was designed by the architectural firm of renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, who also designed KLIA.
As of time of writing (June 2010), the following are some of the buildings that are being planned or have been completed within the KL Sentral development:
- Lot A: CIMB Headquarters, now under construction, with completion expected in 2011.
- Lot B: Undeveloped lot designated for office development by MRCB, Kuwait Finance House and Quill Group.
- Lot C: St Regis Hotel and Residence, now under construction with expected completion in 2014.
- Lot D: Residential lot to be developed by MRCB with Capitaland and the Quill Group. The plan is to construct a 60-storey residential skyscraper here.
- Lot E: KL Sentral Park, an office complex under construction by MRCB with expected completion in 2011.
- Lot F: Undeveloped lot designated for office development.
- Lot G: Nu Sentral, a hotel-commercial-office mixed development by Aseana Investment and MRCB. Construction began in 2008 with expected completion in 2012.
- Lot H: KL Sentral Station, the main transportation hub of the nation completed in 2000.
- Lot I: Hilton Kuala Lumpur and Le Méridien Hotel, both completed in 2004.
- Lot J: Sooka Sentral four 35-storey office towers completed in 2008. UEM Headquarters and MIDA are located here.
- Lot K: Suasana Sentral residential block completed in 2002.
- Lot L: Suasana Sentral Loft residential block completed in 2008.
- Lot M: Plaza Sentral office block with Phase 1 completed in 2001 and Phase 2 in 2007.
- Lot N: 1 Sentral Tower 30-storey office block completed in 2007.
