KOMTAR, Johor Bahru
Komtar, or Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak, is one of the older shopping complexes in Johor Bahru. It was opened on 11 March, 1979 by then prime minister Tun Hussein Onn. Just like the Komtar in Penang, it was named after the late Tun Abdul Razak, the second prime minister of the country.
Komtar comprises a two storey shopping arcade and a 25-storey office block. Its anchor tenant is Parkson Ria, the low-to-mid range store of the Parkson brand of department stores. Koperasi Pasaraya Johor Bahru also operates a small supermarket here.
Komtar now caters more to the low-income shoppers as well as people on transit passing through Johor Bahru. Money changers are conveniently located here.
