Kuala Pilah is the name of the town as well as district in Negri Sembilan. Kuala Pilah District is one of the seven districts of Negri Sembilan, and is the site of the royal town, Seri Menanti.

Kuala Pilah was founded by the Minangkabau, a Malay ethnic group that migranted to settle in the Kuala Pilah area in Negri Sembilan. The area has a high population of Orang Asli.

Places of Interest in Kuala Pilah

  1. Dastar Dendam Tak Sudah
    Memorial in the form of a Malay headgear, located on the Seremban-Kuala Pilah main road. It was built to commemorate Tuanku Mohammad Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Antah, who was the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan from 1898 to 1993. The memorial is now the official emblem of the Yang DiDertuan Agong of Malaysia.

  2. Kuala Pilah Megalith
    A group of standing stones erected during prehistoric times. According to historians, the stones may be related to the local fertility rites to ensure good harvest for the local community. Compare it with the Pengkalan Kempas Megalith.

  3. Lister Memorial Arch
    Memorial arch erected to honour Martin Lister, the British Resident of Negri Sembilan, who was instrumental in bringing an end to clan riots between the various groups of Chinese miners in the area.

  4. Masjid India
    Mosque of the local Indian Muslim community.

  5. Masjid Yam Tuan Raden
    One of the main mosques of Kuala Pilah. It has a big white dome over a multi-arch podium.

  6. Sri Menanti Palace
    Former palace now a museum of the Negri Sembilan rulers.

  7. Sim Tong Temple
    A relatively new Chinese temple built in 1987.

  8. Sri Kanthasamy Temple
    Hindu temple in Kuala Pilah.

  9. Tuan Tulis Mausoleum
    Mausoleum of Haji Ismail bin Hussein, a local scribe born in Kampung Kuala Talang, Kuala Pilah. After his studies, he was passionate in transcribing religious manuscripts, leading the townsfolk to call him Tuan Tulis, meaning Master Writer. After his death, the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan honoured him with a mausoleum.
