About The Old Market of Kuching
The Old Market of Kuching is located to the west of the Square Tower. The vegetable and fish markets were established here in 1924, followed by the pork and poultry markets in 1957. The pork market however was razed in a fire in 2002. This was the main market for the people of Kuching. Initially the market structure were built of wood and attap, and over the decades gradually rebuilt in bricks.
Today the old market continues to bustle with activity, with traders coming in to unload their goods in the early hours of the morning, to prepare for the daily morning rush.
