About Kulim District
|
Kulim District is a district in southern Kedah. The place got its name from a type of tree, pokok kulim (Scorodocarpus borneensis). Kulim district is located next to Seberang Perai in Penang. The district shares a border with Kuala Muda District to the north, Baling District to the northeast, Perak to the east, Bandar Baharu District to the south, and Penang to the west. Kulim District has a total area of 765 sq km.
Kulim District was formerly agricultural in character, with large tracts of oil palm plantations and forested areas. In the last two decades, it has slowly converted to high tech industries and residential housing, due to its proximity to Penang and the Penang port.
