About Lingga

Lingga is a small town in the Sri Aman Division of Sarawak. It is located along the Batang Lupar river near to Sebuyau.

Lingga is a small town. The town centre has a few shops mostly run by Chinese. Due to the presence of crocodiles in the Batang Lupar river, the town is known among the locals as the "Crocodile Town". This mostly agricultural town was established during the time of the White Rajah, Charles Vyner Brooke. The growth of Lingga was stunted following World War II, after which its younger generation tend to move to other towns in search of better job opportunities. One of its most illustrious personalities was Datuk Penghulu Tawi Seli, a former Chief Minister of Sarawak from 1966 to 1970, who came from Banting which is part of Lingga.
