The Buddhist Hermitage Lunas is a Theravade Buddhist meditation retreat. It was set up in 1990 by the venerable Suvanno, a monk that was fluent in English as well as Hokkien. The Buddhist Hermitage Lunas is said to have also received the patronage of one of the wives of Soon Ah Lee, the founder of Lunas town.
I explored the Buddhist Hermitage Lunas with members of Penang Heritage Trust, of which I am a Council Member, on a site trip to Lunas in January 2007.
Exit the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway into Lunas. Go along the main road. Immediately outside town, you arrive at a traffic junction. Turn left and cross a river. Continue on. When the road forks two, take the right fork. You will see the Buddhist Hermitage Lunas on your right.
