Malacca Monorail is a mini monorail project in Malacca Town. This recreational monorail project, similar to those in the Jurong Bird Park and Singapore Zoo, runs along the bank of the Malacca River. It starts at Taman Rempah (Spice Garden) and ends at Hang Tuah, near the former Shaw Brothers City Park.
The Malacca Monorail comprises a single carriage capable of taking 15 passengers. There are two stations named Stesen Hang Tuah and Stesen Hang Jebat. The distance is 1.5 km but the journey will be approximately 20 minutes, to enable the users time for sightseeing along the way. The monorail is expected to run from 8:00 am in the morning to 12:00 am midnight.
Update: 11 December, 2010
The Malacca monorail has ground to a hald due to a host of problems. It was launched in October 2010 but by the time of this update, it has been idle for a month. The coach stalled about 100 meters from the Hang Jebat station with 20 passengers on board.
