About Maludam
Maludam is a village in the Betong Division of Sarawak. The village, called Kampung Maludam, is a cluster of Malay fishermen homes facing the South China Sea. Its inhabitants are mostly fishermen, farmers, merchants, and those involved in logging. The majority of the people are Malays, with some Ibans and Chinese.
There is an unverified account that the name Maludam comes from "Malu" and "Adam", which means "shy Adam". In the story, there was a shy man named Adam who runs and hides each time he encounters anybody.
Maludam was made a district in 1985. It comprises a few small Malay villages including Kampung Sungai Suak, Kampung Hilir, Kampung Tengah, Kampung Darat, Kampung Belakang Pasar, Kampung Masjid, Kampung Hulu, Kampung Seberang, Kampung Hulu Seberang. There are also a few Iban villages such as Kampung Tanjung Balu, Kampung Sungai Daun, Kampung Sungai Molon and Kampung Sungai Pedada.
The Maludam National Park occupies a large portion of this district, at the mouth of the Batang Lupar.
