The Dataran Merdeka Fountain is located on the side of Dataran Merdeka, the Kuala Lumpur Independence Square. In fact there are two fountains on Dataran Merdeka, however, I am only photographing for AsiaExplorers the older one, as it has an attached heritage value. The fountain of Dataran Merdeka was imported from England and assembled in 1897. The fountain was originally erected at Market Square, but was moved upon objection from the police as it obstructed the flow of traffic. The new location for it was on the corner of the Parade Ground, the former name of the Dataran Merdeka.

Close-up shot of the fountain shows gargoyles in the form of griffins.
