Within Penang Island are towns, neighbourhoods and localities, each with its own name. An observation from a visitor about Penang is that its neighbourhoods seem to be very closely packed - several neighbourhoods seem to follow one after the other in rapid succession as one go along a main road. That is part of the nature of Penang, where land is scarce.
