About Pulau Banggi

Pulau Banggi is the island to the north of Kudat in Sabah. With an area size of 440 sq km, it is the largest island in Malaysia, not counting Borneo. This island was disputed over between Malaysia and the Philippines, and have only recently begun to accept visitors.

Visitors come to Pulau Banggi to view the unusual tribal treehouses of the Banggi people. The Banggi is one of the smallest tribes in Sabah. They speak a unique language that does not seem to be related to other Bornean dialects. One of the scenic sights on Pulau Banggi is the 550 meter tall Mount Sinambung. Sinambung Waterfall is another attraction on the island. This waterfall has an overall height of 716 meters and is located about 3 km from the village of Kampung Kalangkanan, which itself is half an hour from Karakit
