Pulau Jerejak Northern Shore, Penang
The northern tip of Pulau Jerejak is where the penal colony is located. This is where Penang's - and Malaysia's - are packed up away from the rest of society. The Jerejak prison was functioning right up to the mid eighties, before the prisoners were transferred to the Sungai Buluh Prison in Selangor.
Today all that is left are the buildings that once held the prisons. The cells have long ago been dismantled. The buildings holding the officer's quarters are broken down, and the pier looked a bit weather worn. Between the northern tip and the middle portion of the island, you pass by the cemeteries of those who died on the island, and well as quarters belonging to the administrators of the island.
The northern part of Pulau Jerejak provides scenic views of Penang Island and the Penang Bridge.
