Pulau Rawa is a small, uninhabited island to the northwest of Pulau Perhentian Besar and Kecil. It is accessible by hired boat from Perhentian. Pulau Rawa is perfect for snorkelling and diving, although visitors are cautioned that the coral reef in Pulau Rawa grows so close to the water surface that inexperienced swimmers may hurt themselves if they swim too close to the reefs.

Pulau Rawa has one of the clearest water quality in the South China Sea. Since there are no resorts here, the water is not polluted by human waste. Visitors to Pulau Rawa are urged to bring home their trash.

Getting to Pulau Rawa

Since the Pulau Rawa mentioned on this page is the one on the northwest of the Perhentian islands, you should arrange with your guesthouse on Perhentian Besar or Perhentian Kecil for snorkelling trips there.

Pulau Rawa is extremely rocky with leafless trees that cling to its cliffs.

To take these shots, I had to climb up the sharp rocks. I took great care to avoid their sharp edges. Instead, it was the branches that scratched me silly.

The sea was so clear it was like looking through broken glass.

Our boats were anchored by the talcum-powder shore.
