About Rajang Mangroves National Park
Rajang Mangroves National Park is a national park in the Sarikei Division of Sarawak. It covers an area of 9374 hectares, and was gazetted in the year 2000.
The Rajang Mangrove National Park provides a barrier protecting the shoreline against erosion, tidal flooding and salt intrusion. At Rajang, 89 species of plants from 39 families have been documented, making it one of the more diverse in terms of flora. It is also the habitat for proboscis monkeys and silver langurs. Other animals found here include the small-clawed otter and plantain squirrel. 76 species of fish and crustaceans have also been recorded here.
Unlike other mangrove forests, the Rajang Mangrove rise up to 3.5 meters above the river banks, and cover as far as 3.65 km inland.
Getting there
At the moment, the national park is not yet open to the public. The nearest town to it is Sarikei.
