About Tun Mustapha Tower (Sabah Foundation Building)The Sabah Foundation Building, known nowadays as Tun Mustapha Tower, is one of the best known landmarks of Kota Kinabalu. It is a thirty-storey tower of steel and glass that houses the Sabah Foundation, or Yayasan Sabah. The building was completed in 1977, and is one of only three buildings built in this concept. Today it is still the tallest building in Sabah, and the second tallest in Borneo after the Ministry of Finance Building in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Originally known as the Sabah Foundation Building, it was renamed in honour of Tun Datu Mustapha, the first Yang di-Pertua Negeri (governor, 1963-65) and third Chief Minister (1967-75) of Sabah.Tun Mustapha Tower houses an auditorium, two mini-theatres, an exhibition foyer, a gymnasium, a kindergarten and a research library. Getting thereTake Bus No. 5A from the bus stations in front of City Hall or Wawasan Plaza. You should have no problem identifying this building (see picture on this page). The bus fare will cost you about RM2.00-RM2.50 one way.
