About Sarawak Steamship Co. BuildingThe Sarawak Steamship Company building is a heritage building on the Kuching Waterfront. It belonged to the steamship company which was established in 1875. The introduction of steamship to replace sailing ships enabled shipping to be carried out throughout the year without dependency on the trade winds. The building however dates from the 1930's, during the reign of Charles Vyner Brooke, the third and last White Rajah of Sarawak. It was used as the company godown or warehouse, as well as office.Today the Sarawak Steamship Co. Building has undergone restoration, and today houses a food & beverage outlet as well as a convenience store. Its proximity to the central business district provides it a regular stream of business from the lunch crowd. Sarawak Steamship Co.
