Sarawak Cultural Village Travel Guide provides useful information for tourists and visitors planning a sightseeing trip there

Sarawak Cultural Village is a living museum showcasing the different tribes of Sarawak. Situated on a 17½ piece of sprawling expanse at the foot of Mount Santubong, the Sarawak Cultural Village introduce seven authentic ethnic dwellings around a man-made lake.

The lake in the middle of the Sarawak Cultural Village represents the Sarawakian's fondness in siting their adobes alongside rivers and other bodies of water. At the ethnic houses, visitors may witness handicraft demonstrations or participate in the tribal games and dances. In addition, household chores, rituals and ceremonies are performed within and around the houses.

At the modern cultural theatre, visitors may watch the beautiful cultural dances performed by the young and exuberant dancers. There is also a restaurant at the Sarawak Cultural Village to serve a selection of traditional Sarawakian food while the handicraft shop offers local handicrafts and souvenirs.

Travel Recommendation

Do-It-Yourself
The Sarawak Cultural Village is located about 40 minutes out of Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. AsiaExplorers provides online booking of budget accommodation and hotels in Kuching and its whereabouts. Contact the AsiaExplorers Travel Helpdesk for miscellaneous arrangements. Entrance fee is RM45 for adults and RM22.50 for children aged 6-12. The village is open from 9:00 - 17:15 daily.

While it is entirely possible to explore the Sarawak Cultural Village in half a day, ideally we would recommend that you spend a full day there. By doing so, you have the opportunity to explore the various tribal houses and also witness one or two of the cultural shows.

Starting from the main entrance, you the souvenir shop, cafeteria and cultural auditorium are located, we recommend an anti-clockwise circuit around the village (see map). The tribal houses to be visited are in this particular order: Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu, Penan, Melanau, Malay and Chinese. The cultural shows are held twice a day, at 11:30-12:15 and 16:30-17:15.
