The St Louis Church, located next door to the Taiping Convent, is one of the few Catholic houses of worship in Taiping. Just next to the Taiping Convent, the Catholic mission in Taiping was started around 1875, through the French Fathers who brought the faith from Penang. On that year, the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart was erected, making it the oldest Catholic Church in Taiping. With the continual growth of the Catholic population, a second parish was set up, specifically to address the needs of the Tamil-speaking assembly. This was the start of the St Louis Church. The church was completed and blessed in 1899. The first building is now used as the Parish Hall. The present St Louis Church was built in 1937.
