About the Sukang
Sukang is a subgroup of the Kadazan-Dusun. The Sukang formed the Sabah North Borneo Sukang Association as an effort to conserve their heritage and culture, and to encourage greater understanding and appreciation of the Sukang subtribe.
The Sukang people has their own version of Adam and Eve story. In the Sukang legend, there was a large Sukang tree - a tree related to the durian - which was bearing fruit. when the fruit was opened, inside was a male baby and a female baby. The male baby was given to the elders of the Tempulhung tribe to raise, while the female baby was given to the chief of the Tuaven tribe to raise. When the children were old enough, the village elders matched them in marriage. Their offsprings are said to the Sukang tribe.
