About Sukau
Sukau is a village in the Kinabatangan area. It is 42 km off the highway that runs between Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and can be reached from Sandakan by taking either a boat or by road. Sukau is the centre for tours to the wildlife sanctuaries in the Kinabatangan area, which includes the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. There are a number of lodges in Sukau where visitors can stay to experience the wildlife. The level of comfort - and price - ranges from budget to luxurious.
Getting there
You can catch a minivan from Sandakan to Sukau. The vans leave from the area behind Centre Point Mall. It takes 2 hours to get there, and costs RM15 per person one way. Please note that access by road will be troublesome during the wet season as the roads become very muddy.
