The Cenotaph of Taiping is one of many that the British erected as memorial for those who died in World War II. Almost every major town in Malaya has one, including the one in Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. On the Taiping Cenotaph are the words "For Our Glorious Dead" in several different languages.
Perhaps in keeping with the size of the town, the Cenotaph of Taiping is the smallest of the many Cenotaphs.
