Taman Tasik Perdana, also known as the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, is the oldest park in Kuala Lumpur. Created from former mining land, the main attraction at Taman Tasik Perdana is the artificial lake surrounded by 92 hectares of lush, undulating greenery. It is a favourite place for the locals of Kuala Lumpur to seek a breath of fresh air. The lawns are meticuously kept , strolling along the carefully planned paths or rowing on the lake. The park also has jogging tracks and exercise stations, as well as children's playground.

I visited Taman Tasik Perdana when I came to Kuala Lumpur to meet up with some members of AsiaExplorers living in Kuala Lumpur. Together we visited several spots in Kuala Lumpur as well as Putrajaya. I find that Taman Tasik Perdana is quite crowded during weekends, when people come here to jog, picnic or even to perform tai chi. In the past decade, several new attractions have been added to Taman Tasik Perdana. Among them is the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Butterfly Park, Deer Park and an Orchid Garden. Within the vicinity of Taman Tasik Perdana are other attractions such as the National Monument, Parliament House, and the Planetarium.
Two colonial mansions overlook the Taman Tasik Perdana. They are Carcosa Seri Negara, built in 1896, is an exlusive luxury hotel that was once the official residence of the British governor of Malaya; and Istana Tetamu, built in 1913, for the purpose of housing the British King, who nonetheless never stayed in it.
