Tangara People of Sabah

About the Tangara
Tangara is a subtribe of the Kadazan-Dusun living and and around Penampang. In fact the name came about for them to differentiate themselves from those in Papar who term themselves as Kadazan. There is an argument that the term Kadazan originates, or became popular, about the same time as when the term Tangara started to be used, which was, around the 1970s. However, there are also counter-arguments that Kadazan has been documented to have been written before World War II. In any case, the Kadazan and most of the Kadazan-Dusun subtribes share similarities in terms of language, differing only in regional choice of vocabulary and culture.
