The Residency, also called the Assistant Resident's House, in Taiping, is what the locals called "Taiping's Stonehenge". That is because all that remains of the Residency are whitewashed pillars supporting a house that was long ago demolished.
The Residency was built in 1884 at a cost of $19,000. It was a single-level building on stilts. It was pulled down when termites and elements made difficult to restore. However, the pillars were retained as a reminder of the house that was.
