About Ulu TiramUlu Tiram is a town about 18 km to the northeast of Johor Bahru. It is on State Route 3, which leads to Kota Tinggi and onwards to the east coast. As with the many suburbs within the immediate vicinity of Johor Bahru, Ulu Tiram has little character or touristic sights.Ulu Tiram was developed by early Chinese settlers in the 19th century through the Kangchu administrative system. A plantation was established at Kangkar Sungai Tiram which initially had gambier as the commodity crop, later switching to rubber and then oil palm. The urban sprawl of Johor Bahru has reached Ulu Tiram in the past few decades, resulting in the development of estate land for residential housing. The new Senai-Desaru Expressway (E22) will pass through Ulu Tiram, with Exit 2204 at the Ulu Tiram Interchange.
