It is located a short distance west of Nyaung U village, and south of the Shwezigon Pagoda. Although named after Kyanzittha, it is more probable that this cave may have been built during King Anawrahta's time. The long, dimly lit corridors are decorated with frescoes from the 11th-13th centuries. Some of the later fescoes depicted Bagan's Tartar invaders during the period of the Mongol occupation after 1287. Visitors to Kyanzittha Cave are advised to carry their own flashlights. Photography is strictly forbidden. ![]() Henry, AsiaExplorers tour guide at Kyanzittha Cave.
