Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, also written Nga Hpe Chaung, is famous as the Jumping Cat Monastery. It is an attractive wooden monastery built on stilts over Inle Lake at the end of the 1850s. To while away time in the monastery, the monks of Nga Phe Kyaung have taught a few of the many cats living with them to jump through hoops. This has provided some entertainment and made Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery an unlikely tourist attraction. Apart from that, visitors may admire the beautiful architecture and picturesque setting in which the monastery was built.
