Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung Monastery is a beautiful wooden monastery near Inle Lake in Myanmar. It is located about one kilometer from the town of Nyaungshwe, on the way from Pindaya Caves to Inle Lake. Built almost entirely of wood, and intricately carved, the Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung is famous for its oval-shaped windows, which is regarded one of the most famous windows in Myanmar. Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung is built on stilts with cement stairs leading up to the wooden structure with tiered roofs. In the ordination hall is a big image of the Buddha.

As night falls, a row of candles provided warmth to the monks at Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung Monastery.

We arrived at Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung as night was falling, and managed to capture the mood of the place silhouetted against the darkening sky. As the night chilled up the air, a row of candles in the monastery provided light as well as warmth. The atmosphere was completed by the sound of the novices chanting in the dark.
