Bohol is one of the smallest of the main islands of the Visayas group in the Philippines. It is located in the southern part of the Visayan archipelago, separated from Cebu Island to the west by Cebu Strait, from Leyte by Camotes Sea to the northeast, and from Mindanau by the Bohol Sea to the south.

Bohol covers 4,117 sq km (1,589.7 sq mi) and has a population of 1.3 million people (2011 estimate). It is administered as part of Bohol Province, which includes the main island of Bohol and 75 surrounding islets. The provincial capital and main town is Tagbilaran City on the southwestern part of Bohol. Bohol has a number of natural sights that have made it a popular tourist destination. Perhaps the most famous are the Chocolate Hills. The sea around Bohol seems with fish and have become among the top diving locations in the country.

Bohol experiences a tropical monsoon climate. Temperature varies from 25°C at night to 28°C during the day. May to July are the warmest season of the year. Heavy rain tends to fall between November to January.

How to go to Bohol

Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is the gateway to Bohol. Its airport receives direct flights from Manila and Cebu City. There are also ferry services connecting it with major cities of the Philippines.

Festivals in Bohol

  1. Sandugo Festival
    This is a celebration in Tagbilaran City commemorating the Treaty of Friendship between Datu Sikatuna, the local chieftain, with the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1565. The festival includes street processions and beauty pagent.
