Cecil Street (see map) is one of the main streets in downtown Singapore. It can be regarded as the street that separates the Central Business District of the Downtown Core from the Singapore Chinatown.

Cecil Street is presently a one-way street. it starts at the intersection with Maxwell Road and Anson Road, and ends where it merges with Robinson Road. Along the way, Cecil Street is intersected by Telok Ayer Street, Mccallum Street, Boon Tat Street, Cross Street, Market Street, Church Street and D'Almeida Street.

Cecil Street was named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, the Governor of the Straits Settlements between 1887 and 1893. It was during Clementi's tenure as governor that the Telok Ayer Reclamation, which extended the shoreline outward from Telok Ayer Street, was completed. Cecil Street was built on the newly reclaimed land.

How to reach Cecil Street

You can take the East West Line to the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station to reach the southern end of Cecil Street, or take the East West Line or North South Line to the Raffles Place MRT Station to reach the northern end of the street.
