The Changi Airport MRT Station (CG2) is the terminus of an extended fork of the East West Line. It opened on 8 February, 2002 to serve the airport, and is located between Terminal 2 and 3.

The distance between Changi Airport and downtown Singapore is just 20 km. For that reason, the airport operated for 21 years without a rail link, as the bus and taxi connections prove sufficient to serve the needs of arriving passengers. The MRT rail line was only extended to Changi Airport when the Singapore Expo was built near the airport, resulting in a potential increase in commuter traffic.

There is a branch on the East West Line at the Tanah Merah MRT Station. Coming from the airport, if you wish to go to places such as Tampines or Pasir Ris, you need to change trains at the Tanah Merah station.
