Over time, however, the harbour activities away from the area, which urbanized. From what was once open sea, the shore overlooking Customs House was reclaimed to create the Marina Bay recreational zone and New Downtown. The change in land usage means that Customs House was no longer in a position to serve the purpose it was originally intended.
To save the historic building and give it a new lease on life, Customs House was restored and readapted as as a food & beverage centre, part of the Fullerton Heritage Complex. This is a place where well-heeled locals can experience fine dining in a glittering surrounding.
