 DBS Building Tower One, Singapore
DBS Building Tower One is a skyscraper in the Central Business District of Singapore. Located at 6 Shenton Way, it has 50 storeys and two basement levels, and stand at a height of 201 meters (660 ft). Completed in 1975, it is one of the oldest skyscrapers in Singapore.
The DBS Tower One was built in the brutalist architectural style fashionable in the 1970's. It was designed by Architects Team 3, and occupies a city block bordered by Shenton Way, Maxwell Road, Maxwell Link and Mccallum Street, together with DBS Tower Two. In terms of appearance, it is quite similar to the CPF Building located next to it.
The DBS Building was erected for the Development Bank of Singapore Ltd, now known simply as DBS Bank Limited, a development-financing institution set up by the Singapore government in 1968, and today ranks as the biggest bank in Southeast Asia in terms of assets. The DBS Building serves as the headquarters of the bank, which owned it until late 2005, when it sold the property to Goldman Sachs, and thereafter leased it back from the real estate fund on an 8-year term. The DBS Bank headquarters will eventually relocate to Marina Bay Financial Centre in Marina Bay when the skyscraper is completed in 2012.
