Erskine Road, Singapore
Erskine Road (see map) is a small one-way road in Singapore's Chinatown. It starts at South Bridge Road, across from Sago Lane, and ends at Kadayanallur Street. Erskine Road is either named after Samuel Erskine of Howarth Erskine & Co. in the 1870's, or after John James Erskine, a government officer who owned land in Singapore in 1824. If the latter is true, then he is the same person after whom Mount Erskine and Mount Erskine Road in Penang were also named. However, as Singapore's Erskine Road was only built in 1907, it was unlikely to have been named after John James Erskine.
