The Singapore Self-Guided Walking Tours
My Singapore Self-Guided Walking Tours are created to cover whole streets from end to end. The purpose is to describe all the notesworthy sight along the street. To avoid the text of the walking tour becoming too long, description of each sight is provided separately by links. In practice you may choose to detour to other streets, according to your own preference. Feel free to mix and match the walking tours to create your own.

Exploring the Historic Streets of Singapore is a list of free, self-guided walking tours to help you learn and better appreciate the history of Singapore. I create it to provide you details of the sights along the streets and an insight into its past.
One of the irritating things I often hear people say about Singapore is that it has demolished all its historical buildings. Demolished some, true, but certainly not all. Often, those people who make the blanket claim of Singapore having wiped out all its historical buildings are the same one who couldn't identify which historical building was lost, let alone while are still standing.
Although I am not living in Singapore, I can say that many of its historical buildings are still around. It is true that many shophouses and townhouses in the city have been torn down, particularly in the 1970's and 80's. However, those that are still standing today are in better shape than similar houses elsewhere in the region.
Rather than just saying that there's much of Singapore's past still standing, I create this guide to help you explore the historic streets, to show them to you. Short of taking you myself, this is the best way to introduce to you the historic sights of Singapore at your own pace. The walks are designed to be taken on foot, not by car. I often walk up a road where the vehicular traffic is coming from the opposite direction, so it is not possible to follow my walking tours on wheels.
Please feel free to print out and take with you any of the Self Guided Walking Tours that I have created on this page. They are for your personal use and enjoyment. If you find anything incorrect or requires updating, please write and courteously let me know. As mentioned, I am not living in Singapore. Nevertheless, my descriptions have helped not only visitors but full-time residents of Singapore get to know and appreciate it more.
Preparing for your walk
The best time to explore the streets of Singapore is on Sunday morning. That's when it's cooler, and many of the streets in the city centre are deserted. Singapore can get very hot and humid, especially in the afternoon. If that's the only time you have to do your exploration, remember to apply sunblock and wear a hat. Otherwise the Singapore sun will scorch you. Also carry ample supply of drinking water. There are plenty of eateries in the city, so you don't have to worry about getting hungry.
