Kallang River is the longest river in Singapore. It connects the Lower Peirce Reservoir to the Kallang Basin, a distance of 10 km across the island republic. Historically, the estuary of the Kallang River is at Kallang Basin, but successive land reclamation has extended the shoreline outwards, creating the Marina Channel, which is dammed by the Marina Barrage.

The river, as with the surrounding areas, was named after the natives living there during the time Raffles established Singapore. They were known as the biduanda orang kallang, natives who make a living fishing around the estuary of the river. A census conducted during the establishment of Singapore in 1819 placed the number of orang kallang as 1,000.
