About Mustafa Centre

Mustafa Centre is a shopping centre in Little India. It is one of the few retail outlets to open 24 hours in Singapore. It is located immediately behind Serangoon Plaza and is stocked with merchandise catering to the surrounding working class community. Much of its clientele include tourists from India and foreign workers who come for the low-priced merchandise.

The history of Mustafa Centre goes back to 1971, when it was founded by Mustaq Ahmad as a shop selling garment on Campbell Lane. In 1973, another outlet at Serangoon Road was opened selling electrical goods. When the government acquired the premises for conservation in 1985, Mr Mustaq Ahmad decided to move the business to a 40,000 sq ft plot adjacent to Serangoon Plaza. Although the location was outside the heart of Little India, the decision paid off. Seeing the opportunity, the business bought up a few old shophouses at Syed Alwi Road to build Mustafa Centre.

Mustafa Centre opened in April 1995. Today it is the "Harrods" of the Indian community of Little India, selling anything and everything, and drawing some 15,000 customers every weekend.
