Pulau Hantu is the name of two low-lying islets on the southern coast of Singapore. The islands are located to the south of Pulau Busing and to the southwest of Pulau Bukom Kechil.

Pulau Hantu comprises to conjoined islands, Pulau Hantu Besar and Pulau Hantu Kechil. Together they cover a total area of 12.6 hectares. The size of these two islands are quite dependent on the tide. Between the two islands are two lagoons shaped like a pair of spectacles. During low tide, the water level of the lagoon is so low that it is possible to wade across from one island to the other.



View Pulau Hantu in a larger map The name Pulau Hantu means "ghost islands". According to local lore, two Malay warriors once fought each other to their deaths here, and their ghosts are said to haunt the place.

Unlike the surrounding islands such are given over to the petrochemical industries, and are off limits from casual visitors, Pulau Hantu is accessible, and is a popular site for snorkelling, diving and fishing. The reefs off the island has a healthy growth of corals, and if lucky, one may come across the clown fish and sea anemone.
