Scotts Road, Singapore

Scotts Road is a major road in the Orchard Road area. It runs from Newton Circus to the intersection with Orchard Road, from where it continues as Paterson Road. Along the way, it forms a junction with Stevens Road and Cairnhill Road. The Hokkiens called the road Tanglin Mata-chu Tui-bin, meaning "road across from the Tanglin Police Station".

Scotts Road, spelled with an "s" at the end, was named after Captain William Scott (1786-1861), without the "s", son of James Scott, the partner of Captain Francis Light who established the first British trading port in Penang. William Scott made his home in Singapore from 1836 until his death in 1891. He owned the estate in the area growing, among others, betel nut, cocoa, mangosteens, rambutans and durians. His attap house on the estate was known as Hurricane Cottage. Unlike his father, who was buried in the Protestant Cemetery in Penang, Willilam Scott was buried at the old Fort Canning Cemetery.
Among the sights along Scotts Road include DFS Galleria, Scotts Shopping Centre, Far East Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Goodwood Park Hotel and Tangs.
