The name Simei means "four beauties" in Mandarin. It refers to the "Four Beauties of Ancient China" - four women from ancient China who were renowned for their beauty. Originally, the streets in Simei were named after these four women, Xishi, Wang Zhaojun, Diao Chan and Yang Guifei. However, they were simplified to simply Simei Streets 1 to 6 after they were deemed too difficult for non-Chinese people to pronounce.
Simei is bordered by the Pan Island Expressway to the north and Upper Changi Road East to the south. The two main roads in Simei are Simei Avenue and Simei Road. Eastpoint Mall is the shopping mall serving the Simei township. It is located next to the Simei MRT station. Its anchor tenant is NTUC Fairprice supermarket, which occupies the basement level.
Getting there
