Located in Jurong, the Singapore Discovery Center first opened its doors in October 1992, with the official opening by President Ong Teng Cheong on 23 November 1996. It is located on the grounds of the SAFTI Military Institute, next to the Army Museum of Singapore.

The Singapore Discovery Centre too a change in direction in 1989, moving away from being a historical museum to a issue-based showcase. Design consultants Ralph Appelbaum Associates were hired to revamp the centre in 2001.

The result of this makeover is that the centre now moves towards imparting knowledge of Singapore with an interactive experience. Although the earlier exhibits reflect its military roots, the newer exhibits provide visitors an idea of how it is like to live in Singapore, the various milestones that the country chalked up, all these peppered with interesting trivia about the island nation.
