St James Power Station, Singapore
St James Power Station was the first coal-fired power plant in Singapore. It was built in 1927 to supply electricity to the shipyards in the Tanjong Pagar area.
Today the St James Power Station has been restored and turned into a nightlife venue housing 11 nightclubs, among them Dragonfly, Firefly, Mono, Movida, Bellini Room, Gallery Bar, Peppermint Park, The Boiler Room, The Lobby Bar, Powerhouse and TigerLIVE. It competes with the Ministry of Sound at Clarke Quay and Zouk as the choice live entertainment destinations in Singapore. There is only one charge for patronizing all the outlets. The refurbished power station reopened in late 2006 at a cost of S$40 million.
