The Suntec City Mall was the largest shopping mall in Singapore when it opened in 1995. Today it is the second biggest behind VivoCity. It has 888,000 square feet of retail space and houses some 360 retail outlets within its L-shaped configuration. The mall is divided into four zones namely:
- The Suntec Galleria, which is on the ground floor of the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, offering high-end international labels targeting convention delegates and tourists.
- The Suntec Tropics, offering lifestyle merchandise and services for a wider spectrum of shoppers.
- The Suntec Fountain Terrace, the food and beverage zone located around the Fountain of Wealth
- The Suntec Entertainment Centre, on the northeastern end of the mall, housing the cineplex, fitness centre and gaming arcade, among others. The first Carrefour outlet in Singapore is also located here, occupying 140,000 square feet of space.
Suntec City was designed by Tsao & McKown Architects. Its design pays special attention to the Chinese belief in feng shui or geomancy. The five high-rise office blocks are arranged to form the palm of a hand, at the centre of which is the Fountain of Wealth, designed to resemble a gold ring within the palm of the hand.
