Dutch Period Museum is housed in a Dutch colonial residence that dates back to 1780. For many years, it was used as a post office, but has now been restored to its original appearance. Within it is a collection of period furniture, household items, maps, and charts showing the history of Dutch colonialism in Sri Lanka.
I wandered into the Dutch Period Museum while Colombo with members of AsiaExplorers. When we arrived, we were not sure whether the museum has opened for the day, so we simply walked inside. Later we learned that we were the first customers, and had we arrived a little later, we would have been charged a fee.
