Chonburi Province is the province on the Eastern Region of Thailand. Covering 4,363 sq km (1,684.6 sq mi), it is one of the most developed province of the kingdom outside Bangkok itself. Chonburi Province boders on Chachoengsao Province to the north, Chanthaburi Province to the east and Rayong Province to the south.

Chonburi Province has a population of over a million people. Its capital is the city of Chonburi, on the northeastern part of the province. Chonburi Province is heavily industrialized. It is also the major playground for Bangkok residents, being the location of the city of Pattaya and the island of Ko Sichang.
The name Chonburi is derived from Sanskrit meaning "city of water". It is on the northern end of the Gulf of Thailand, within part of the Bay of Bangkok. On the southern part of Chonburi Province is the deep-water port of Laem Chabang.

Getting there
Chonburi Province is served by Motorway 7, which continues as Highway 7, running north-south through the province. On the western side of the province runs Sukhumvit Road, which forms the old trunk road linking it with Bangkok.Return to Thailand Travel Guide
