Ganesha Shrine is a Hindu shrine outside Isetan Department Store at CentralWorld Plaza. It is just one of the six shrines to Hindu deities located in the Ratchaprasong shopping district within the vicinity of the intersection of Ratchadamri Road with Thanon Rama 1 (Rama 1 Road) and Ploenchit Road, a surprising occurance in a predominantly Buddhist country, and an example of the fusion of different beliefs. Nonetheless, the businesses operating at Ratchaprasong have found it fit to erect these shrines. The most famous of the six is of course the Erawan Shrine, erected to Brahma. In addition, there's the Ganesha Shrine, the Trimurti Shrine, right next to the Ganesha Shrine; the Lakshmi Shrine, on the fourth floor of Gaysorn Plaza; the statue of Narayana riding the Garuda, in front of the Intercontinental Hotel; and the Indra Shrine, in front of the Amarin.

The Ganesha Shrine was built in 1994 and dedicated to Ganesha, the Hindu elephant god, who is regarded as the god of accomplishment and the destroyer of evil and obstacles. Devotees come offering flowers, fruits, milk and sweets. Meat of any kind must be avoided.

Getting there

The Ganesha Shrine is along Ratchadamri Road, in front of Isetan Department Store, next to the Trimurti Shrine, at CentralWorld Plaza. The easiest way to reach here is to take the BTS Skytrain. The Sukhumvit Line and Silom Line converge at Thanon Rama 1 (Rama 1 Road) in front of CentralWorld. Alight at either the Siam station or Chit Lom station, then walk to CentralWorld. Gaysorn and BigC Ratchadamri are in front of it.
