Exploring King Rama V Equestrian Statue

The King Rama V Equestrian Statue is a statue at the royal plaza in front of Dusit Palace complex. The king, also known as His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, is shown in field marshal's uniform mounted on a horse. It was cast in Paris in 1907 when His Majesty was doing a tour of Europe. It was shipped to Bangkok and arrived in 1908.

The King Rama V Equestrian Statue is 2 meters tall, from the base to the top of the king's helmet. The base is 2 meters wide and 5 meters long, and the whole structure is 6 meters tall. On the base of the statue is a bronze plaque honoring the king. Every year, on 23 October, representatives of various government bodies, the military, the police, and so on, place garlands, incense and flowers to commemorate the anniversary of the demise of the king.

The Royal Plaza on which the statue stands is used for the annual Trooping of the Colours ceremony held in December.
